Canterwood is in Gig Harbor off Rt 16, north of Tacoma. It's an upscale private course, routed through a residential community, but is open for limited public play, just call the pro shop, generally they have off-peak times available. The course has been around since the mid-1980's, originally designed by Robert Muir Graves, but softened up recently by John Harbottle. The course used to be very penal, but the redesign helped its playability, and is on the level of the some of the best upscale courses in the area. From the tips it's impossible to play unless you're a scratch golfer, 7,175 yards, 76.5 course rating and a 141 slope, we've played from the middle tees at 6,400 yards, and it's all the challenge you need. Great golf course and experience, exceptional playing conditions, especially the greens, have to be the fastest we play in the area. Tree lined fairways, all of which are tight and unforgiving, no two holes the same, just an outstanding experience.
