The Canaan Valley Resort and golf course is three hours from either Pittsburgh or D.C. due west of Winchester, VA in the Monongahela National Forest. The resort is a bit old and dated, but functional. Beautiful setting here, nice and remote, here for a long weekend and played golf a couple of times, but wouldn't necessarily come back as a golfing destination. You're at some elevation here, +3,000 feet above sea level, but that didn't really noticeably help the distance on my golf shots. The course here was designed by Geoffrey Cornish, and is parkland style with water on eight holes, well bunkered, and from the Blue tees is 6,984 yards, with a slope rating of 130, playing down to the Gold tees at 5,966 yards, with a slope rating of 122. Well groomed course, a little difficult to walk, and deer all over the place.

Always a fun course, nice value and a good getaway from DC just to stay here for a long weekend. Course is maintained well, good mix of tough holes and easier ones, good for all levels of play.
