Marriott's Camelback Golf Club is on Lincoln, between Tatum and Scottsdale, just a classic desert resort, with Marriott style service. Two 18 hole courses here, the Padre and Indian Bend. Padre is a Arthur Hills designed 6,868-yard, par 72 course that plays to a 131 slope, 72.3 course rating from the black tees. It's more of a parkland style of layout with trees, water, and a lot of bunkers in play, and requires more strategic play. The Indian Bend course is links style, designed by Jack Snyder and playing to 7,014-yards, par 72. It's the original course here and also known as the Club Course. Good wide open fairways with a lot of water, and great views of the surrounding mountains. It plays to a 122 course rating and a 72.6 slope.

Quite frankly shocked that this is a Marriott property, except for the level of service we received. The course, we played Indian Bend, was nothing special, and the conditions poor, burned out fairways, greens had been recently sanded, and the sand in the traps like gravel. The layout was for the most part wide open with scattered trees lining the fairways, some interesting holes, but no elevation change and fairly mundane. When you come to Scottsdale, have the Marriott name attached to a golf course, you expect much more.

A great course to play for out-of-towners. Nice views of mountains and beautiful homes. Course is old by Phoenix standards, and has a traditional feel. Course is made more difficult by strategic placement of many sand traps. The golf course and resort just doesn’t measure up to standards of many newer courses in Phoenix area. Probably won't play again till I've played more of the newer, upscale courses in the area.
