Designed by William Newcomb and built in 1999, Calderone Farms blends the basic elements of links and parkland styles to achieve an interesting and challenging course. Sited on rolling grassland and woodland property, most holes are bordered by long native vegetation and fescue. The routing passes through some wooded areas and several ponds create obstacles but the layout is mostly open. At 7,004 yards (74.2/136 rating) the course will test even the best players. However, with 5 additional sets of tees, the track can be played by any caliber of golfer. The green complexes are large, undulating and protected by extensive sand bunkering. Located between Ann Arbor and Jackson, take I-94 to exit 150 (Grass Lake). At the end of the ramp turn left on Mt. Hope and then immediately right on Cedar Knoll Drive to the Willis Road intersection.

If someone had told me that this course was rated among the top 100 public courses in the US, and didn't tell me where it was and how much the greens fee was ($25), how would I rate it? Don't setting (right off the highway, and provenance (a hog farm near a depressed town) taint us from the start? I can't decide if this course is just a nifty, affordable, fun track or a really superb one. Or maybe the two just need to be the same in my internal assessment of golf courses. I know that I enjoyed it much more than any course I've played in Michigan, and I've played a few. not because it's easier. It had more design variety by a long shot. Dare I say its shot values were better, too.
