Located southwest of Bristol, England by an hour, The original club was founded in 1890 with a nine hole course, and in 1892, J.H. Taylor a 19 year old lad would become the club's golf professional. The course plays to 6,393 yards, par 71 from the regular tees, and is laid out through the rolling large sandhills on the Bristol Channel, with views across the Channel to Wale's Porthcawl. The is one of the better links courses I've ever played and never heard of. It's pure linksland, rolling and rippling fairways, some elevation change as it meanders through the dunes. The greens are sited, some that blend right into the fairway, others perched and crowned on plateaus, and are some of the best we putted on whilst in England. Tee shots are partially to completely blind and the distances of approach shots are hard to judge due to the scale of the surrounding peaks and ridges. There's 27 holes here, but just play the Championship 18. If you're staying in the area, the Saunton Sands, a first class hotel and restaurant with excellent views, and 5 minutes from the course.
