A great muni golf complex with two 18 holes courses. The original course, The Players Course opened in 1974, and was originally designed by George Cobb, but renovated later by Rees Jones. It's a very strong course playing to 7076 yards from the back tees, 131 slope. The course has an excellent routing around 7 lakes and 80 plus traps, is mostly flat with some mounding in the fairways and around the bunkers. The Champions Course opened in 1990 and was designed by Rees Jones, and went through an upgraded/renovation in 2007 in preparation for the 2010 USGA Publinks tournament. Seven holes border Lake Townsend, and it can stretch now to 7135 yards from the back tees with a 130 slope. Both courses are fairly well maintained, but not much in the way of food service in the clubhouse. Pace of play is usually an issue here due to the price and the fact that it's a muni, but overall an upscale type course at a reasonable rate. The Champions is the best course here.

It has a nice combination of links-style holes (especially on the back nine) and foresty holes. I would categorize it as tough but fair -- a couple of the holes are pretty punishing from the tips, but all the trouble is laid out clearly in front of you. Wind is definitely a factor, and as the op pointed out, this course is right up against tidal marsh areas and holds a lot of moisture. It plays longer than the yardage. One minor beef -- the yardage markers were accurate, but few and far between. But generally speaking, a very nice area golf course.
