Probably the first muni in the world of golf, Braid Hills sits above the city of Edinburgh, ten minutes from Prince Street. There's two 18 holes courses here, but #1 is the star. It only measures 5,731 yards, par 70 from the back tees, with several drivable two shotters. It's a scenic location overlooking the city, and narrow fairways bordered by gorse covered hillsides, golden in the spring. The course routing features a number of rock outcroppings, humps, hillocks, and hollows with sharp doglegs, and sweeping downhill holes. It's a tough walking course, leave your driver in the bag on some holes, others let her rip in an attempt to drive the shorter two shotters. Well kept for a muni, and one of the lowest green fees in Scotland.

Every hole gave me a rush of blood....I defy you to find a course anywhere that offers more risk and reward than this course. FUN, FUN, FUN. It was raining, it was windy, and I loved every minute of it! I think it might actually have been my first round at a true municipal course in Scotland. Enjoyed ever bit of it as well -- lots of heath, elevation changes, and some tough holes. The views of Edinburgh were terrific as well. It started raining on the back nine, and the temp dropped a lot as we finished, providing a fitting finish to our Scottish golf trip -- and requiring a wee nip or two for fortitude on the last few holes.
