The course is in the midst of the Scotland's Highlands, 2 hours north of Glasgow or Edinburgh, and 1.5 hours south of Inverness. It's hilly and tree-lined, a challenging layout, and a pleasure to play. All golf here, nothing but the course, and the mountains. It opened in1898 with 6 holes, and was fully 18 when James Braid, who designed the King's Course at Gleneagles, completed the design in 1930. The view from the Clubhouse, over the 1st and 2nd fairways and beyond to the Cairngorm Mountains - with Lairig Ghru and the northern corries of Braeriach is fantastic. They do have a few golf carts from what appears to be the 1960's era if you cannot take the hilly walk.

Boat of Garten was a fun, mountain, or Highlands style course, with plenty of hilly and sloping fairways, tree lined holes, and great views of the highlands. Nice change of pace from playing the links courses around Nairn and Dornoch, and one the way south to either Edinburgh or Glasgow.
