Blue Ridge Shadows is about an hour west of the northern Virginia area off I-66, north of Front Royal in the Shenandoah Valley, and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Tom Clark designed the stunning golf course of 7315 yards, 143 slope from the back tees. Parkland style course routed over hilly land as it was, not much made up here. Tree lined holes, split fairways, double greens, elevation changes, and a 60 foot waterfall give you a lot of distractions. Visually intimidating the first few times you play, and kept in excellent condition with a great pace of play. Well bunkered, challenging, play from the whites if you 10-20 handicapper and it's all the course you'll want. Not for anyone playing north of a 20 handicap.

Heard the golf course was in bankruptcy, and may or may not continue to operate. If it remains open, course conditions may suffer, too bad because it was a great golf course in a nice setting.

Beautiful last days of Fall to play today. The course had excellent layout with lots of elevation changes as was advertised. Service and facilities, carts, etc. are all excellent. Greens are on the slow side and rough and bumpy. Biggest issue are the sandtraps (which I visited too frequently) found typically unraked. Definitely will play again.

This course opened recently. It is a Tom Clark design by Ault Clark and Associates. Everybody who has played has come back with great stories and comments about the course. They have a waterfall that descends behind the clubhouse and is in play on two holes on the course, I believe. This is second hand of course. The course is supposed to be the centerpiece of a new community. There are no houses yet so you can enjoy the course without the intrusion of homes at this point.
