Black Horse Golf Club is off 290 in Cypress, about 30-40 minutes northwest of downtown Houston. Two very good, and expensive 18 hole championship courses designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy. Both are parkland style courses with tree lined fairways, surrounded by residential development, but not actually impacting the course all that much. The North course, from the Jake tees is 7301 yards, 130 slope, and 75 course rating. The South course is 7191 yards, 73 course rating and 137 slope from the Jake tees, but there's a total of 6 set of tees. Challenging layout, a lot of water and/or wetlands in play on at least half of the holes, and it's well bunkered. Very long, so choose the best tees for your level of play, otherwise it's a long day. Well maintained, and good pace of play. Check for lower rates in the afternoons or during the week, with range balls and lunch, it's a +$100 day out here.
Layout was not particularly challenging but course was in immaculate condition. Greens were lush and very fast. Fairways and rough were well tended everywhere. Staff was not overly friendly but they may have had preparation for a corporate outing on their minds. I will go back Flag Content
