Blackheath is in the Detroit area, Rochester Hills, and was designed by Kevin Aldrich and opened in 1998. The course was built on a fairly small tract of land for a golf course, and feels a little cramped. The course features links style holes and heathland style. The fairways are forgiving, but bordered by heather grass in the roughs which, depending on the height, can add strokes. The greens are contoured and somewhat undulating, but fair. The bunkering is not severe nor unfair, save a couple of nasty pot bunkers. There are only two sets of tees, the championship tees are 6,800 (73/137) yards and the next set only tips out at approximately 6,100 (69.3/119) yards. The rates are great, and the conditions usually good, although play can be a little slow at times.

I've played this course about ten times this year and it's pretty nice. The only problem I ever had was rate of play. Being so cheap (the most I paid was $30 with a cart for 18), it's crowded all the time. Also, the description above is slightly inaccurate as there are Black, Blue, White and Red tees on the course. Black: 6768 (137); Blue: 6127 (124); White 5354 (119); Red 4572 (119).
