Blackhawk is along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River just south of Edmonton, Alberta, and was designed by Rod Whitman. The course is routed in a beautiful setting, and the back nine couldn't be more stunning. It's very much a minimalist design, nothing much was touched with the land. The parkland style has a good amount of elevation change as it moves up quickly from the start on the river, then back down through stands of poplar and pine trees, with the back nine running through the river valley. Bunkering is staggering throughout the course, both around the greens and fairway-side. The greens are small to mid-sized, quick and with good undulations. It doesn't play long at 6777 yards, par 71, but there's a great variety of holes, and a number of risk/reward options, and it's definitely critical to employ good course management. It's becoming more difficult to secure a tee time here, one is advised to contact the golf shop well in advance.
