Big Sugar Golf Club is in northwest Arkansas, north of Rogers off Rt 94 in Pea Ridge. The golf course is a good combination of parkland style holes with elevation change through the trees along with some more level and open holes along the Little Sugar Creek that winds its way throughout the course. From the back tees it's 7,200 yards, 74.0/144 ratings, but has three shorter sets of tees. It was designed by Jerry Slack in 2002, and is an interesting course to play. Not the greatest of conditions at times, challenging course, especially on the holes through the forests. Nice setting in the Ozarks, reasonable greens fees.

Glad I found Big Sugar to play using this Forelinksters site. It was a very challenging golf course, not for the higher handicappers. Conditions were just OK, but then it's just coming out of a long winter. Pace of play was fine, we played in just over 4 hours. Rates were fair, and the golf course played long and hard, but then you had some nice scenery to sooth the soul.

I love this course. I live an hour and a half away in Oklahoma, and I make the drive at least once a month. The severe elevation changes, make for some stunning holes. Even including the gas cost, it's cheaper to play here than to drive into Tulsa and play. The greens are usually good, and it's easy to get on the course. It's not so easy to play the course though. Very challenging, must think, must hit every shot with an exact purpose, or you will not fare well. Chose the appropriate tees for your ability, not a pro? DON'T play from the tips. You've been warned...

What a unique course! I will tell you now, this is THE HARDEST course I've ever played, and I've played some of the hardest, Oak Tree, Southern Hills, Pinehurst, Torrey Pines, Sawgrass. Now, Big Sugar doesn't compare to these courses, but it's harder. Usually good greens, fairways are average at best, design is, well unique, severe elevation changes on most holes. Trouble everywhere. Key to playing this course is selecting the appropriate set of tees for your ability. Even as hard as it is, this is a great value.
