The course is located in Ascot, Berkshire, west of London. The two courses here, the Red and the Blue were designed by Herb Fowler in the 1920’s. The Blue is not as quirky as the neighboring Red course, and much more challenging in some ways, from my perspective, though not as long. If the very clever bunkering doesn’t affect your play, the stream running through most of the course will. The first hole is a round buster, a long par 3 over a sea of heather right in front of the clubhouse, play the Red first to warm up for this starter, but overall, a little more forgiving than the Red. The Red is a little unusual in that it has six par 3's, six par 4's, and six par 5's, a little longer than the Blue at almost 6,400 yards. Beautiful setting, pine tree and heather lined fairways, elevated tees. Some of the par 5's are short by today's standards, and birdie and eagle are definite possibilities. Wonderful, old-fashioned course, classic clubhouse, make sure you stay for the lunch. Superb conditioning, welcoming feel in the clubhouse and the personnel, would recommend both for a nice 36 hole day.
