Belleview Biltmore Golf Club

Edit this info

The course is located on the west side of Clearwater, and is part of the old Bellview BIltmore Hotel, a resort of some prominence back in the early 1900's. The hotel has fallen into a dated feel, we stayed there, and I fully expected to see Jack Nicholson pounding on our door in the middle of the night! At any rate, they hire Donald Ross in 1925 to build a golf course, and it became the course of choice for this part of Florida. The course has fared much better than the hotel, and while it's a bit overpriced (you can play some of the Innisbrook courses for the same price), if you enjoy an old classic, it's worth it. If you're looking for another Donald Ross, check out Dunedin CC, 15 miles north. The course plays to 6600 yards with a 124 slope from the black tees, and is a challenging parkland style of course with 75+ bunkers and water on 14 holes. You need to keep it in the fairways as the rough is thick and grabs the clubhead. The greens are small and traditional shell-like, and drain off the green into bunkers or collection areas if you're not spot on.

The course gets a lot of play. The Fairways are in okay shape, greens really depend from day to day, but generally good. It isn't as much of a Donald Ross course as it used to be, after they re-did it a few years ago, but looked just like most other Florida courses: dead flat and surrounded by houses for the most part. It's fun, but if you want the true Donald Ross experience go up to Dunedin instead. It is a pretty easy layout, so if your looking to have a decent day of golf, its not a bad choice. Flag Content
