Barnbougle Dunes is one of the top courses in Australia, and continues to gain acknowledgement as one of the best links courses in the world. Located in Tasmania, an island just south of Australia, Barnbougle, designed by Tom Doak and Mike Clayton, plays to 6148 meters with a handicap rating of 75, and was officially opened in 2005. The course owner, Richard Sattler, is currently developing a second 18 holes which have been designed by U.S Golf Achitect duo Coore & Crenshaw of Sandhills and Kapalua fame. The course is routed over 200 acres of rolling sand dunes, and is one of the most physically and mentally demanding courses you will play. The fairways are carved through the dunes and with tall native grasses alongside, true links course, no trees, and gently rolling, sandy soiled beach land .There's plenty of natural, sand areas along with traditional, yet huge bunkers. The greens run fast, are moderately undulating, and are generally in excellent condition. The trip here a 70 km drive from Launceston takes you through some of the finest scenery you can imagine.

An awesome links course with every hole a challenge (even when there is no wind - which is quite rare. Just back from a trip and played three times in one weekend and never played with the same wind conditions which was especially challenging when playing th short (98m) par 3. On day 1 with no wind, played a pitching wedge, Day 2 into a strong wind wind, played a 5 iron and still did not get pin high and on day 3 with the breeze behind us - a sand iron that flew over the green. Great views, great accommodation and a great course. Going back to play the new The Lost farm in May can not wait....
