Banff is one of the more beautiful places on earth for a golf course. It's located in the Banff National Park, west of Calgary in the mountains at the Fairmount Banff Resort. The course was designed by Stanley Thompson (18 holes in 1928), Cornish and Robinson (9 hole course in 1989). The course winds along the Bow River under Sulphur Mountain and Mount Rundle. Using a crossover pattern, you can play the Rundle/Sulphur combination, stretching 6,626 yards, with a par of 71. The Sulphur/Tunnel nines, 6,721 yards, the Rundle/Tunnel course,6,443 yards. The Rundle and the Tunnel nines each bring water into play on only three holes. On the Sulphur layout, the Bow and the Spray Rivers present an interesting challenge on at least six holes. The new nine blends with the original design well and has views even more spectacular than those on the original layout. Quite simply the most spectacular course I've ever had the pleasure to play, even the clouds of mosquitoes couldn't detract from the experience. a quite incredible 18 holes of golf. It's a very expensive day out at 225 CAD, but as a one off experience it really shouldn't be missed.

The entire area is surrounded by mile upon rolling mile of beautiful dense forests. Beautiful, that is, until a few trees get in front of you on the golf course. It is not at all uncommon to see elk on this course, particularly in the morning, or to find huge bear paw printsin some of the sand traps early in the morning.
