Badlands Golf Course

Edit this info

The course is west of downtown Las Vegas, 30 minutes from the strip, just off Charleston. It's a 27 hole layout, the Desperado, Outlaw, and Diablo, and was designed by the team of Johnny Miller & Chi Rodriguez as a target style desert terrain course. It's a beautiful and challenging course with excellent guest service. The front 9 we played Desperado, tight fairways, fast greens and fairways that are like plush carpet.. The Diablo, the wind kicked in and was blowing 30-40mph on a tighter course with good elevation change, and in excellent condition as well. Course was deserted and finished in ~3 hours. Yardage book essential for play, no GPS, but sprinklers are marked. Almost every hole has forced carries and hit-and-forget areas, especially on Desperado.

Frankly, it wasn’t nearly as bad (or tight) as I thought. In fact, for the most part at least two of the nines have generous landing areas (Outlaw and Desperado) and the third (Diablo), is fairly open until the last four holes. At the end of my 27 holes I was surprised by how much I liked the course. The greens on the Outlaw had some fungus problems, but Desperado and Diablo were both in great shape from tee to green. I kind of like a setup that doesn’t allow for mindless banging of the driver on every hole. I would also contend that if you can’t hit a mid-iron within fifty yards of your target you pretty much deserve what you got coming. This layout makes you think a bit. I would warn high handicappers that there are a few holes that require carries of 100+ yards over caverns and canyons. (The #9 tee on the Diablo is about as tough a tee shot as you’ll find.) Most golfers have this shot in the bag, as long as they can block out the intimidation factor. Flag Content

Pretty course but I found it to be too much target golf and too penal... if I was just 5 yds off the fairway, I had to take an unplayable because I didn't want to ruin my clubs. After the 7th or 8th time, that got old real fast. Course was in good shape, good service in the clubhouse and on the course, saw the cart girl twice over the round Flag Content
