Ashley Plantation is just on the north side of Roanoke, off I-81, exit 150 then north a few miles to the golf course. Three nine hole layouts routed over hilly land through a residential development. The homes take a way a bit from the overall aesthetics of the course and the setting, but aren't really that much in play or distracting. All three 9's were designed by Russell Breeden, the Meadows is a good challenge, hilly, some strong par 4's, and has nice elevation change. The Hills is the toughest of the three with the most elevation changes, elevated tees and greens, nice views, a lot of variety in the lie, and the best par 3's. The Orchards is the newest of the three, and is a drill in course management where you plot your way around the course, and has an island par 3. There's also a unique hole, the 721 yard, Par 6 on the Hills nine, with a forced carry off the tee, but once on the green make sure to take a look back toward the tee to see where you came from. It's quite a sight. Not all that crowded, a little expensive on weekends, lower rates for seniors, and just off I-81
