The course is in the Sierra foothills, north of Auburn in Grass Valley and was designed by Bob Baldock and Jim Summers in 1964. Private course, but allows afternoon play at fairly reasonable rates. It's a scenic and remote setting for a course, parkland style with a lot of elevation change, especially on the back nine, and is at 2000 feet above sea level. Oak and pine tree lined fairways, separate and unique from each other, you really need to play with someone who knows the course or buy a yardage book the first time you play here. It's 6500 yards from the back tees with a 70.9 course rating and 127 slope, and is maintained in excellent condition with a good pace of play due to the membership here.

First time I've played Alta Sierra, but will be back, nice layout, rates were a little steep, but it was in very good condition. Tough golf course layout for my game, lots of tree trouble, but once on the greens, you could count on the green's consistency.

This was a great course. The fairways were in excellent shape and the greens were near perfect and some of the hardest I've ever played.
