The course is part of the Fairmont Algonquin in St Andrews, New Brunswick, just across the border from the states at Calais, Maine, a border crossing. You don't have to be a guest of the hotel to play here, but it's highly recommended, a beautiful setting, accomodations were excellent, and the price reasonable. Golf's been played here since the 1890's, with some design work on the original course by Donald Ross. A new course was developed in 2000, designed by Tom McBroom, and is just outstanding. The routing is on a hillside overlooking the Passamaquoddy Bay, the Bay of Fundy, and the coast of Maine. Great views out over the Bay throughout the course, with the back nine more scenic than the front. The course plays to 6,800 yards from the back tees, is a fair resort style, parkland style of layout with good elevation change, excellent conditions, and a challenging and fun golf course. A great collection of par 3's, scenic and challenging. The course was fair off the tee, but on approach to the greens, was very challenging. Enjoyable layout, conditions outstanding, and fairly reasonable rates. Worth seeking out.
