3 Lakes is the former Alcoma Golf Course in Penn Hills off Saltzburg Road. The course is busy, but well conditioned, and they always seem to manage play well. The routing is tree lined fairways, some rather tight, playing to mid-sized round greens, protected by bunkers. Very straightforward and fair course if you can keep it in play, otherwise it's a long day. The course was designed by one of the old masters of PA golf course architecture, Emil Loeffler, who had a hand in Oakmont. From the tips the course plays to 6,600 yards, par 72 with a 72.6 course rating and a tough 129 slope. Choose the right tees, maybe shorter than you usually select to enjoy the round more.
